Work..oh joy...no, I really mean it

Work has been surprisingly fun today. We are dreaming and planning for the future, and especially have begun planning for a Girls only retreat that will be lots of fun (I actually hope that we can teach a little knitting at it)... Our grant money that funds our program runs out in December of 2006 and so funding for our future is sketchy at best, but we are starting to plan and dream anyway and that is a fun process with the fabulous people that I work with. Now- on the home front our little one is catching a cold, and I am hoping we don't all get it, but the good news is - he'll go to bed a little earlier than usual, which means more knitting time for me. YEA! so- tonight I will start working on the side panels for the infamous laptop bag, and hopefully in a couple of days, I can felt that thing!

And one more note- there is this really beautiful book called Living Faith that is about India and its many religions and it is just gorgeous. I went there in 2000 and now I am dreaming of going back....but that is a long way (and a lot of vacation dollars away) from happening. Oh well- more things to dream about...

The Hershey Hotel and other things...

So, this past week was really interesting. I spent 3 days at the Hershey Hotel - which was incredible. It was work related, learned alternative worship possibilities for using art and film in worship- REALLY fabulous stuff. Of course, I love art- and so any opportunity to explore beauty like that really makes me happy. Also- that hotel is truly incredible- and we had such a great rate- it was amazing (this is because it is their slowest week of the year). The food is just spectacular...oh my.... and best of all- the knitting craze was all over the place at our meeting. I bet there were at least 10 people out of 130 who knitted, crocheted or cross stitched their way through the meetings- but mostly knitters. So I got some great help, saw some cool patterns and had the BEST time! Which is great because I really have been flirting with some pretty serious depression for me, and this experience just helped. Someone I really trust also recommended at therapist and I am finally (I have been talking about this for over 5 years now) going to make an appointment. Good news for me, but also for those who know me and have had to put up with major bouts of "blueness" and angst for so many years. We'll see how it goes, but either way, it's good to be taking action to change my life for the better. Thanks for the comments on my last post all- and I'll try to write and be in touch more often. Peace!

Spoiled rotten

So in the end last week, my being depressed and miserable about my birthday led to people turning around and spoiling me rotten...and i am grateful...thanks to everyone for the b-day wishes and all the support! as for my knitting news- I went to Oh Susanna's this morning and got some beautiful pink mohair- it is rich and lovely.... I needed a lighter weight project I can keep on my lap subtley this week because I am headed off to a convocation event at the Hershey hotel, and I want to knit, but not be obvious, and my laptop bag project is just too big now to knit without being majorly noticeable, so I am going to make something smaller with the mohair...it should be fun! If any of you snb girls hear of a meeting again, let me know!

So much better

Sarah just popped by my office (if you read this- thank you) and made life so much brighter...I was starting to get really depressed about my birthday, and just by chatting about life and what not- she made me feel so much better!

Now, in knitting news- I think tonight I will finish the back panel of the laptop bag, and then I'll have to try to learn some new skills to do the sides...I really need to start going to snb Lanc meetings, so that I have some skilled knitters to ask questions of. My mom crochet's and does pretty much every craft under the sun, except knitting! So, I need to get my nerve up and be willing to look foolish in front of strangers by asking for some knitting help. We'll see how that goes! :-)

Knitting at Quilting group

So, last night I got to knit a little bit...My MIL and SIL are in a quilting group that meets every monday, and since one of them hosted last night I was invited along. I have never had much interest in quilting (though I started to get interested last night) and so I took along my knitting- but really only got a few rows in. Oh well, better a little than none at all. Tonight should be a quiet night at home, and hopefully after Isaac goes to sleep I can pick up the needles for a little. What an addiction this knitting has become! Alright- I really am supposed to be working right now, so- back to work for me...

A little Romance (& a family pic)

So- no knitting happened this weekend- that's right- absolutely none. I got to hang out with my mom a little, have fun with Scott's family a little- and most of the last two days I seem to have spent helping a friend plan and implement a worhip service based on our trip to South Africa this summer. It was a full weekend.

On a side note about the weekend--- I had challenged Scott to TRY - as best he is able- to bring a little romance into our lives again. Good Grief, you'd think this wouldn't be that difficult! But after all the years together- I think he's forgotten what the word means. He needs some sort of "Romance for Clueless Husbands" boot camp. Is there a class I can send him to? Seriously, I would pay big bucks for one... I actually gave him examples of what I mean by romance and it got me absolutely nowhere....Arrgghhh.

So, Don't get me wrong---He's my best friend, my love and I adore him- but sometimes I could just choke him (figuratively). Valentine's day, needless to say, is not his forte...Oh well- he is a great Dad, a whole lot of fun, and I've been with him since I was 16, so I guess I'm not going to trade him in at this point. Alright, that's enough whining for one night. I'll try to both knit and post something more positive in the next day or so. (who knows, maybe in the meantime he'll surprise me with flowers and a bottle of wine or something- Yeah, Right!!!!) :-P

Blog pains

So, even though I am a child of the 80's and am supposed to be computer literate- I realize now that I know so little. I barely know anything about blogging and web rings (I am trying desperately to learn and quickly). And for sure I am struggling with getting this blog to look the way I want it. It seems I know just enough to get myself into trouble- but not enough to succeed in my attempts at changing this template. And it is cutting into my knitting and reading time which is MAJORLY pissing me off- so that is my post- I am just bitching today- sorry. UGH!!!!

The Afore-mentioned Sick Baby

A Sick Baby

So, I had to pick our 16 month old up from daycare yesterday because he had a weird rash and was not himself- turns out he just has a virus, but it means we are spending (both of us) two days at home recovering. Hopefully this means some knitting time while he naps tomorrow, because I certainly didn't knit at all last night or today...and now tonight I missed going to the SnB group. Oh well, they'll meet again. And I also started reading an addictive little novel this week that is interfering with making more progress on the laptop bag- so hopefully I'll find time to fit all of that in in the next couple of days as well as working a little from home. we'll see how it goes- there never is enough time in a day!

Front Panel DONE! Yea!

Last night I finished the front panel of my laptop bag. Yea! I absolutely love the feel of the bulky yarn and how quickly it knits up. I just wish I were a quicker and more skilled knitter, but that is something I am working on. Tomorrow night I am planning to go to my first ever knitting gathering. I can get pretty nervous meeting new people, so hopefully that will go well ( i also get nervous about other people seeing my meager knitting skills, but that's just an insecurity I'll have to overcome). So- that's all the news that's fit to write. See ya!

Sorry Sarah

Ok, so for a while it seemed like Sarah's life was like mine, but now it seems like I am stealing everything I do from her- we just have wayyy too much in common. It is strange really. I have never in my life had so many interests in common with another person- but Knitting, blogging, looking at makeup and pretty much all the things I want to do- she does too. And so now- she started a new blog in January, and I am too. I beg your forgiveness.... and just know- there are lots of things we DON'T have in common too.... Now onto other news- it's been a great knitting week for me- I am moving beyond scarves finally, and my first major project (a laptop bag from the Stitch and Bitch Nation book) is going really well... I just need to find more time to work on it! so- I guess I'll stop posting and make more time in my day for that... Till next time!
